Hard Boiled Egg Cooker

One of my very favorite kitchen gadgets is my hard boiled egg cooker. I generally whip up a batch of eggs on Monday and snack on them throughout the week.  Eggs are packed with protein so they help keep hunger at bay. I often peel a few and pop them in a baggie with a little salt and pepper for a healthy on the go treat.

A hard boiled egg cooker makes it easy to make hard boiled and soft boiled eggs while I am doing other things (instead of watching a pot boil).

In the olden days, to enjoy a yummy hardboiled egg, you had to boil water on a stove, than cook the eggs in the water, keeping an eye on the pot to make sure it did not boil over .  To enjoy a soft boiled egg, was a messy procedure, with it being very hard to judge how long to cook the egg, so as not to overcook, or undercook.  Having undercooked eggs can be dangerous, and overcooked eggs can be unpleasant tasting.

Now, it’s so easy to make eggs without the hassle, cook time, or clean up.  There are so many hard boiled egg makers in the marketplace that help chefs, moms, students, and office workers make eggs in a quick, easy, and non messy way.  Egg Genie, Krups and Cuisinart have great egg cookers, to name a few.

Different egg makers offer different features.  The Cuisinart  Egg Cooker, Egg Genie Electric Egg Cooker and Krups Egg Cooker work very similarly.  With this hard boiled egg cooker you simply place a small amount of water into the basin.  You will then put a small hole into the top of each egg, using the puncture feature on the bottom of the water measuring tube it comes with, and place the eggs into the device. Close the lid and press start.

Your eggs will cook for about 10 minutes, then will be completely ready for you to eat.  You don’t even have to worry about the hassle of the stove, and it’s great for college students in a dormitory situation that don’t have a kitchen to use.

The Eggiessystem uses individual plastic, egg shaped containers for the eggs.  Simply crack your egg, place in the egg container, and into a pot of boiling water.  After your eggs have finished cooking, you can remove the containers from the water, and remove the eggs.  Reviews on the Eggies system are mixed,with some saying the way it works is a hassle. You can also hard boil or soft boil your eggs with these methods, depending on cook time and amount of water used.  Don’t forget, that the Egg Genie and Cuisinart also allow you to poach your eggs, a great feature for making eggs benedict or to be served with toast for a quick, nice breakfast before starting your day.  You can also never over or undercook your eggs, as the machine sounds a loud alarm and flashes an indicator light when eggs are finished cooking the correct cook time.  Both machines can hold up to 7 eggs at once.

T-Fal Actifry Low Fat Multi Cooker

You can lose a lot of weight and eat healthier without giving up the fried foods you love.  The hot product, T-Fal Actifry Low-Fat Multi-Cooker , is a cutting edge appliance that allows you to eat fried foods, but in a healthy way.  The appliance’s secret is that it uses little or no oil to make your favorite dishes.  While at most fast food joints and restaurants, French fries, chicken fingers, and fried fish are caked in oil and use tons of it to get fried, the T-Fal uses a mere fraction of oil to create the same item.  This takes the calories down significantly and makes it healthier for your heart and body.

The T-Fal Actifry is also incredibly easy to use.  Simply turn on or off with the push of a button to cook or stop the cook time.  You can waste no time with waiting for your device to preheat, because the T-Fal is automatically heated when it turns on.  The other control you can use is the timer.  Use the timer to cook your meal.  You don’t have to worry about using an oven or microwave timer, or keeping an eye on the clock since the T-Fal does it for you.  It is also VERY hard to mess up your dish, as the TeeFal keeps a consistent, even temperature of 338 degrees Farenheit, so no uneven burning or scorching.  It also uses a unique stirring pattern to distribute oil evenly, ensuring your food is fried consistently.  This all occurs without your help, you just press the power button on and set the timer, and go on your merry way.  The lid of the fryer is transparent and completely steam free, so you can watch your food cook and keep an eye on things easily.

It is also super easy to clean this machine, unlike many other frying appliances that are a complete nuisance and awfully messy to clean up.  With all the grease on other fryers that is hard to clean up, it is easy to see why so many of them get stuck far In the back of our kitchen cupboards after a month of use.    For starters, the   T-Fal  uses little to no oil, so that makes it much easier to clean up the much lesser amount of grease that is emitted.  Also, the lid, pan, paddle, and filter, are all dishwasher safe!  You don’t have to struggle washing the dishes by hand.  And, the aluminum pan that holds the dish is nonstick, so that is also much easier to clean and won’t leave caked on residue after going through the dishwasher.

There can be some drawbacks to the machine.  One reviewer mentioned that the alarm on the stopwatch wasn’t loud enough to be heard over the sound of the machine.  Another person said that their paddle stopped working after about 6 months, something that can be frustrating, as the machine clocks in around $240 USD.  However, most people absolutely love this product, and Dr. Oz even listed it as a great way to lose weight on his show.  A reviewer on Amazon.com says,  “I bought this in 2008 in Germany and use it every day for perfect fries and everything else pre-cooked or fried.”  Another reviewer states, “Imagine the best French fries you have tasted but without the greasy feeling and oil dripping from them.”  As the T-Fal company grants a 1-year warranty, it is definitely worth trying this product to see if you love less fattening fried food!
